It's all good?
February 21, 2008
I have long been saying that Microsoft's entry into the ECM marketplace may NOT be good thing for established ECM vendors (See my posts Microsoft Does It Better? , A New Kid On the Block , and Documentum + Microsoft:The HookUp- How Does It Affect You? ) and now, finally, someone seems to concur. From what I can tell, EMC seems to be drinking co-opetition kool-aid (It was less than a month ago that I heard an EMC employee say something like "Microsoft needs us!" to a customer and to then go on and explain how they'd spent time in Redmond co-plotting shared solution strategies), while Microsoft peers over its shoulder, gathering domain knowledge, and readying itself to take flight untethered. Take the Regulatory Life Sciences space as an example. I'm not sure Microsoft is being, or has been, all that sneaky about its intentions. They've just kept a low profile until they've had something to say. They've attended DIA/EDM conferences for a few years now, sharing a booth with the likes of Zorch Software. I caught notice almost right away; I even called Marc Deckner a few years back to ask why Microsoft was at the DIA (they had no product to offer as far as I could tell.) Though I don't remember his exact words, he pretty much said, "We're on our way". Visit the archives of his blog and see if you can't connect the dots.

Too much turkey? Then turn on the teli, or its internet-enabled counterpart, anyway. If you work with EMC, Documentum, Captiva, or with a competitor product, here's a little clip that's interesting, entertaining and informative. And, oh, you needn't bother covering your vulcan ears...

A "New" Kid on the Block
July 23, 2007
Content Management Systems (CMS) industry analyst Alan Pelz-Sharpe says it's a good time for Life Sciences firms to reassess their ECM investments.
Why? Because there may actually be an alternative to traditional ECM vendors like Documentum and OpenText.
Come again?

What's Da Veather In Vendorland ?
May 3, 2007
Most of you who read this blog know that we are seasoned Information Technology recruiters. We started in the biz when IT was called Data Processing and the Internet was a TCP/IP Wide Area network. Back then we went to our alma maters and local universities to do computerized research;we either faxed or mailed resumes to our client firms. We felt like quick, quick kids who worked in a too slow world.
Before you Skype your frustrations out or offer to buy us some Geritol, scream "What does any of this have to do with ECM, my job, or my world?"
CHILL. Did you know what AJAX was three years ago? (If so, then you ought to become a fortune teller since the term wasn't coined until 2005)
Enough of the jibber and of the jabber, we're sticking our toes into the ECM Vendor waters and letting Alan Pelz-Sharpe of CMS Watch walk us through the tides and the changeable waters.
