Documentum's first Web 2.0 product.

Initially it will be made up of ESSENTIALS for collaboration and guess what the price will be ( if you're an existing Documentum customer)?

Time to diversify?
May 5, 2008

Sometimes I'm asked to answer the same question as a stockbroker; people call and ask, "How's the (ECM) market?"

No one is actually looking for scientific data, they just want to know I'm hearing. I talk to a few hundred ECM professionals each week, so it's fair to say my ear is pretty close to the ground, in the USA, anyway.alarm

And what I'm observing is that companies are re-thinking their ECM strategies for a number of reasons: Regulatory (FDA, ISA, SOX etc...), Business/IT Strategy (SOA, SaaS, Enterprise 2.0), Storage (Scanning, Archiving and Access), Cost, Ease of Use, and the availability of newer technologies ( SharePoint, Alfresco).

The (ECM) market, as a whole, seems to be growing, but the old mainstays (DOCUMENTUM, FileNet, OpenText) are no longer the default response.

Does this mean that Documentum is losing market-share? someone recently asked. It's hard to answer that question without any real statistics on hand.

ECM 2.0 ?
November 11, 2007

According to Balaji Yelamanchili, senior vice president and co-general manager of content management and archiving (how about getting a simpler title?) at EMC, the plan is to introduce four solution frameworks that consist of reusable templates that EMC partners and customers will use to develop applications on EMC's ECM platform.

The four frameworks are:

I must have been too busy hunting heads to take notice of the Alfresco Conference in NYC, but here's what someone heard.

A Different Sort of Release
June 19, 2007

First an apology, this entry was supposed to be about Documentum 6 (D6) but then we got news that's just too interesting not to share.

It seems that Microsoft is positioning itself to compete directly against Documentum (or EMC, if you prefer) in Documentum's most sacred marketplace.

"What's that?" you might ask? Life Sciences, duh. And is Microsoft being quiet about it? Not hardly.
