There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands. We seek problems because we need their gifts.

I've been thinking a lot about storage lately and also about accessing data from someplace other than my C drive. My laptop had a difficult to diagnose problem (it was taking more than 3 minutes to open a document and it couldn't multi-task at all) and I was wishing that my stuff (programs and data) was accessible via the word-wide web. And sure, with a little awareness and forethought, my wish could have been granted compliments of on-line storage and SaaS. But I had set-up neither. It was my good fortune that a client overheard my moaning, pointed me to Mozy saying I'd never have to have this problem again.
"You can try it free," he urged. (You can too. Go to the Mozy page I linked to, look to the left center of the page.)
So I took 2 of the 66 gigs of backed-up information I had on my Seagate drive and threw it up on the web. Though I'm testing this out with content that can be accessed via common desktop software and can afford to be compromised, I have big hopes for it. I wouldn't have to sync my laptop every time I hit and returned from the road, and I wouldn't have to keep buying bigger hard drives.
What does this have to do with Information Management and ECM technology? Plenty. Think about it, EMC owns Mozy, Google's got a grid . And everyone keeps accumulating more and more information.
And oh, I promised a prize. I invite you to grab a refreshment, sit back, click here and enjoy.
