It happens at least a few times a week, I get a call and someone asks me, "How's the market?"
Anyone who watches the news knows that the past year has been one of job creation. Is that true of the Documentum space?
It's certainly not the "hot ticket" it used to be. How do I know?
First, employers call me (and vice versa) and the number of random Documentum-related calls (meaning employers with whom I don't have a relationship) is down. This, by no means, means the market is dead- it just means that fewer new Documentum jobs are being created.
What does that mean to you? If you are an experienced, but mediocre, Documentum professional, it may mean that when you decide to change jobs you'll have fewer choices (Imagine a game of musical chairs- when demand is high there are six players and ten chairs, now there are eight players and ten chairs)
If you're a developer, you'll have fewer choices still because development jobs are being outsourced.
If you're an "A" player who has a great agent, there's no need to fear, companies are dying to meet folks like you.
Is my view of the marketplace off? Probably not. Here's a Documentum Job Trends graph produced by the most popular vertical JobSearch engine.
